Alta Ares Raises €50M to Become a Leading European Player in Air Defense

Paris - Kyiv – June 9, 2026.
Alta Ares, a defense technology company specializing in air defense and edge AI, today announced a €50 million funding round. The round was led by Air Street Capital, a leading AI-first venture capital firm, alongside Cherry Ventures, OTB Ventures and Harpoon Ventures. This capital injection comes amid sharp commercial acceleration for the company, marked by multi-million-euro signed contracts and active deployments across several operational theaters in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
"We are thrilled to secure the backing of renowned European tech investors and deeply appreciate the renewed trust of our existing partners as we enter this next phase of growth. Modern warfare is defined by speed, mass, and, above all, the capacity for continuous adaptation. Alta Ares was born from this operational reality directly on the battlefield. Our goal is not just to build technology, but to deliver a comprehensive air defense capability. This round provides us with the resources to accelerate our industrialization, product development, and international expansion," said Hadrien Canter, CEO and co-founder of Alta Ares.
A Capability Gap in Air Defense Architecture
Extensive aerial strikes observed in the Middle East and Eastern Europe have exposed the clear limitations of legacy air defense systems. Modern warfare is now driven by fast, low-cost, mass-deployed autonomous systems that have completely inverted the economic equation of modern conflict. NATO allies face complex, coordinated salvos, sometimes combining over 600 drones and dozens of missiles in a single night. Safeguarding airspace requires a decisive shift toward a new generation of platforms designed from inception for autonomy, modularity, and interoperability.
Building Operational Solutions to Counter Emerging Aerial Threats
Founded in 2024 and shaped by the operational realities of the conflict in Ukraine, Alta Ares was built on a simple conviction: modern warfare demands agile, scalable, and adaptive systems. Alta Ares is positioned as a "capability provider" through a unified architecture built around AI-automated detection, identification, and interception.
Engineered to operate reliably in both arctic and desert conditions, Alta Ares currently develops and deploys two distinct classes of interceptors:
- X-Lock: Designed for Shahed-136-type threats, featuring a short-range operational radius (15 km).
- Black Bird: Engineered for high-speed targets such as KH101 cruise missiles and FAB500 glide bombs, featuring a medium-range operational radius (30 km).
Accelerating Technological Deployment
Currently deployed across three active conflict zones simultaneously, Alta Ares holds a powerful competitive edge fueled by real-time operational feedback. NATO recognized the company’s capabilities with an innovation award in March 2025 and continues to support its technological maturation.
In this context, the company’s commercial growth has rapidly accelerated both in Europe and internationally, securing multi-million-euro contracts. To sustain this momentum, Alta Ares is scaling its engineering and operational teams, making additional hires by the end of the year. The company is supported by a top-tier advisory board, including Philippe Lavigne (former Chief of Staff of the French Air and Space Force and former NATO Supreme Allied Commander Transformation) and General Corentin Lancrenon (3-stars French Army General).
Alta Ares also plans to open new offices in the Middle East and Asia, while further strengthening the production capabilities of its facilities in France (Toulouse) and Ukraine.
Scaling to Become a European Leader in Air Defense
Led by Air Street Capital, a leading fund dedicated to AI-first enterprises, this investment syndicate brings together strategic investors at the intersection of AI and defense. The company’s existing investors have also renewed their commitments, confirming their long-term trust in Alta Ares' vision and growth trajectory.
"Alta Ares embodies a new generation of European defense players: companies capable of rapidly developing sovereign, combat-proven systems that integrate cutting-edge AI technologies. It is precisely through these highly agile and competitive innovators that our democracies can match the rapid tempo of contemporary conflicts. We are convinced that Alta Ares has the potential to become a global leader in counter-UAS and broader air defense," commented Nathan Benaich, Founder of Air Street Capital.
With this transaction, Alta Ares moves beyond a purely reactive stance against aerial threats, gearing toward technological anticipation to supply its partners with highly adaptable solutions as the battlefield evolves.
